To prepare your new device for use at school, please visit: Student BYOx On-Boarding Process

Student login details required.

For support please email: BYOx@runcornshs.eq.edu.au

We believe that a strong BYOx program allows for students to create a deeper understanding in learning and develops skills that they will take with them for the rest of their lives.

From 2023 it is an expectation that every student bring a suitable BYO device to school every day to gain access and be fully engaged in our digital classrooms.  This will be supported in the classroom with increased use of digital tools, including every class having their own OneNote containing their lesson outline, tasks/activities and resources, and selected access to digital textbooks.

Other year levels are also welcome to bring a suitable device, as they too will gain access to the same digital tools and class OneNotes.

Please note that to participate in Runcorn State High School's BYOx Program, parents/guardians must complete the BYOx acceptable use policy (PDF, 1MB), and return this to either Administration or directly to the IT Support room.

Purchasing a Device

We have created partnerships with three major providers that can offer education pricing, and package deals, along with finance options if required:

HP Portal:

www.hp.com.au/byod

School Code – RuncornSHS

Dell Portal:

https://datashop-qld.datacom.com.au/rshs

Username: rshs

Password: parent

Apple Education:

https://www.apple.com/au/education/

You can also purchase your own device. If you choose to purchase a device through a retailer, we strongly recommend that you download the Byox device requirements (PDF, 1MB) to hand to the salesperson, to ensure that you are purchasing a device that is suitable for the BYOx program.

Warranty & Accidental Damage Protection

Laptops are expensive technical devices and they do break down and can be damaged, especially in the hands of teenagers. It is vital to ensure a fast turnaround for repairs when the need arises.

We highly recommend every device has Accidental Damage Protection (ADP) insurance with Next Business Day (NBD) warranty. Each of the above portals offer this as an option to you.

Note: The school IT Support staff are unable to repair personally owned devices, however may be able to assist in some warranty claims.

You may have the option of adding ADP to your home and contents insurance policy. However, be sure that it covers the device 24/7 and while away from your home.

Unsupported Devices

A number of devices are not supported by the EQ network:

  • Chromebooks
  • Android tablets
  • Linux devices
  • iPad Mini’s
  • 2.4Ghz Wi-Fi (Device must be dual band or 5GHz capable)

Software Requirements

All Queensland state school students are eligible to install a free copy of Microsoft Office 365 on up to 5 personal devices via the Microsoft Student Advantage package.  Follow the link below to install.  You will need to sign in to this website with your school email address and password (note that Year 7 students will receive this information at the beginning of the school year):

http://portal.office.com/OLS/MySoftware.aspx

BYOx Lockers

BYOx lockers are available on a first in basis for Year 7 and 11 students. If you are a Year 7 or 11 student and would like a locker, you are required to fill out the BYOx Student Locker contract and pay a $13.00 deposit at the finance window in Administration. After the payment has been made, present your completed BYOx locker contract and payment receipt to our IT Support Team and you will be assigned a locker and padlock. The $13.00 deposit will be credited to your account upon return of the padlock at the end of the school academic year.

Onboarding your Device

To ensure access to the school network and services, all student devices must be onboarded BYOxLink and Microsoft InTune.  To ensure this process is completed in a timely manner, students are required to do this at home and will need their school username and password (note that Year 7 students will receive this information at the beginning of the school year).

To complete the process, students will need to navigate to the following location and complete the steps outlined:

BYOx - Student Information + Setup (student access only)

If you have any issues with the process, please present your device to the IT Support room before or after school or during breaks, and they will assist.
