Cameron Baird V.C., M.G. was killed in action in 2013, and in doing so, was awarded the Victoria Cross. His father Doug, came to speak with us about the cost of wars, and in an emotional ceremony spoke about respect and honour and challenged the students to carry forward that which we have been given, at so great a cost. Every student in the school was given a poppy, and asked to reflect on its significance.
At a post ceremony morning tea students and staff spoke with Doug, a very proud Dad. He spoke about Cameron and his unit (2 Commando Regt) and Cameron’s history as a top sportsman.
The school was honoured to receive a “Sands of Gallipoli” plaque from the Sunnybank Sub Branch of the RSL, presented by President Hugh Polson and Harry Claassen. It will be proudly displayed in the office.
Lest We Forget.
