English as a Second Language Program (ESL)
The program provides language support across the curriculum for recently arrived non-English speaking background students. This support enables students to function more effectively within the classroom and assists them in the achievement of their personal goals.
Support takes the form of:
- conferring with teachers to raise their awareness of the importance of language education in teaching and learning across the curriculum,
- in-class support for students' needs and abilities,
- on-going assessment of students' needs and abilities,
- additional language support for students on an individual basis or in small groups,
- preparing appropriate materials and resources for students/teachers and
- liaison with other support staff, Guidance Officer and parents where necessary
