Structured Workplace Learning

Structured Workplace learning (SWL) is offered to all year 11 and 12 students who are currently enrolled in a Vocational Education course at school.

Structured Workplace Learning enables students to undertake periods of work placement with an employer in the workplace. This experience helps students link knowledge and skills with careers as well as foster the development of employability skills.

Students involved in SWL are usually in the workplace one school day a week for a period of 10 weeks. SWL is unpaid work.

Students who are seeking a school-based apprenticeship/traineeship or wish to obtain employability skills prior to leaving school are strongly advised to undertake this program. Employers look much more favourably at prospective employees with experience.

Structured Workplace Learning is organised through the Southside cluster Industry Placement Service (SCIPS). The fee for this service is $30 and will be be invoiced to the student once the placement begins. The fee covers all placements that ae accessed by the student in 2007.

Students can make appointments to speak to our SCIPS coordinator (Mrs Janelle De Villiers) on Thursdays from 10:45 to 1:55pm. mrs De villiers is also available between 9:00am and 3:00pm on Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday if students have a query or just want to pass on paperwork.

For further information please contact Mr Merv Swords (HOD Senior School)  or Mrs Janelle De Villiers (SCIPS)
