Runcorn State High School belongs to the Karawatha Secondary Sporting District in Brisbane. The schools participating in this District are Runcorn State High School, Browns Plains State High School, MacGregor State High School, Park Ridge State High School, Sunnybank State High School, Calamvale Community College and Stretton State College.
The school participates in the cluster competition on Wednesday afternoons across a Summer and Winter season. Summer sports include Basketball Year 7&8 and Year 9, Baseball, Cricket, Softball, Touch and Volleyball Boys. Winter sports include Basketball Year 10 & Open, AFL, Netball, Soccer and Volleyball Girls. The Rugby League Competition is held across two gala days.
District Championship winners then play off in the Metropolitan Finals competition to choose the best team in each age division and sport. The Metropolitan Finals Competition is played on Wednesday afternoons between 10 Districts in South East Queensland. Nearly 100 schools, both private and public participate. This is of a very high standard.
Runcorn State High School is affiliated with the Metropolitan West School Sport region. Students are eligible to trial for Metropolitan West regional teams through selection in Karawatha Secondary (13-19 years) and Sunnybank Primary (12 years) district teams.
